| Name: | Edward Elric |
|---|
PERSONALITY - Edward Elric is an incredibly complex character (even though he may not appear to be at first.) I thoroughly believe that there are different layers to the FullMetal Alchemist that are a combination of thoughts, feelings, and mixed emotions comprised from past experiences and lessons learned. Some of those harder lessons in life, (such as Hohenheim walking out on Ed and Al), have made Edward a stronger person. He doesn't enjoy depending on people and yet at the same time, because of the situations he's faced, he feels as though the weight of the world is on his shoulders and everyone is depending on him. Although he will rarely ever admit it. Edward is young and can have his moments, but all in all he is fairly mature for his age and highly intelligent and of course he clearly shows us his intelligence when he gains the title of State Alchemist, since he is the youngest person to become one. HEIGHT COMPLEX: Edward is definitely a strong character. But even strong characters have pet peeves or certain things that will set them off if provoked. Edward hates it when people try to get a rise out of his height and often times with fly off the handle, thus resulting in that said character receiving a mouthful of insults from the boy. It has been displayed before that Ed does not bother to censor himself when he's giving someone a verbal lashing and will go great lengths to insult that character, using terms that belittle them and often times crush their egos or make them question Ed's mere existence. |
HISTORY Edward and his brother Alphonse were as close as two brothers could ever be. The bond between them proved to be unbreakable even though they had experienced countless fights and spats when they were younger. They had always been there for each other through thick and thin. When Edward didn't want to drink his milk, Alphonse would always scold him, saying that he needed the calcium, however, Edward would always turn up his nose and refuse. That was Al's way of going about things. Always caring for his brother no matter what. In a way, Alphonse was the more mature one, even though Edward had the upper hand on him in age. When the two youths had lost their Mother to an incurable illness, they decided that they would use alchemy to bring her back from beyond the grave. It was by far the most forbidden act known to man. Alchemy to resurrect humans was not something to be taken lightly. Even so, the boys carried on with their plan and after learning as much as they possibly could about human transmutation, they carried out their strategy, not knowing what mysteries they were about to unlock, nor of the danger that they would soon put themselves in. The plot went terribly wrong even though the boys had tried their best. Al's entire body and Edward's left leg had been taken by a being known as The Gate Of Truth. Edward didn't want to lose his brother. He couldn't bare the thought of it. So he sacrificed his right arm in order to bind Al's soul to a suit of armor. As the horrid event took place, a State Alchemist known as Lt. Colonel Roy Mustang was watching the spectacular lights which had been a result of the botched transmutation. Known as the Flame Alchemist to his peers and co-workers, he was intrigued by the sight and after an encounter with the brothers, he managed to talk Edward into coming to central, after he had received prosthetic limbs known as automail, which had been made from some of the finest quality of metals, given to Edward by the Rockbells. To recover from automail surgery is not an easy task (as most people that are familiar with the FMA fandom know) yet even so, with his strong will and determination, Ed pushed himself to the limits and recuperated within a minimal amount of time. Alphonse and the Rockbells were by his side every step of the way for moral support. Upon leaving Resembool, Edward and Alphonse set fire to their house. Normally when people move, they pack their belongings and leave. Sometimes those people return back to their roots (home town) if they fail at what they set out to do. But to prevent themselves from giving up and throwing in the towel so easily, the boys ended up burning down their old house. They were both incredibly determined to get back what they saw was rightfully their own no matter what the cost. No matter what the sacrifice, they held the notion in their hearts that they would come out ahead of the game and restore what they lost. Even though they felt like the weight of the world was on their shoulders. The boys knew that the path to getting what they wanted was not going to be an easy one to go down. Even so, they weren't about to give up without a fight. They knew that if they were to persevere, they would eventually reach their goal and the hand of fate would work in their favor. The sole reason why Edward went to Central? To become a State Alchemist in order to access the reading material that had been locked away within the confines of the main library. He believed that those books would contain the secret to the Philosopher's Stone. A stone which he thought would be the key ingredient in getting Al's body back and not to mention, his own limbs. The exam to become a State Alchemist was not an easy one by any means. It was an extremely hard task indeed and not to mention, time consuming. Edward spent countless hours studying with the help of his brother. Finally the time had arrived. First was a written portion, then he had subjected himself to the board, and finally, a demonstration of his strength's and abilities. Who was that scrawny kid that went up against Roy Mustang? Edward Elric of course. Although he despised being called short and would fly off the handle if one were to even hint that he was. Ed had passed the test, was triumphant and the military took him in instantly as one of their own. From then on, he and his brother were sent on various missions, by Edward's new superior, Roy Mustang, all the while secretly scouting for any information on the Philosopher's Stone. Alphonse and Edward encountered many hindrances while searching for the Philosopher's Stone ,(for example when they encounter the homunculi group, who work for a higher power that goes by the name of Father, who was originally given a body by Ed and Al's father, Hohenheim), and also meet a number of allies including Ling Yao, the prince of an eastern nation named Xing. Alphonse and Edward first encounter Ling in Rush Valley a long with his bodyguards, Ran Fan and Fu. At first, Ran Fan thinks ill of Edward because of his attitude towards the young prince, but eventually after the set aside their differences as the manga carries on, they develop a friendship or moreso mutual understanding of one another. When the boys set off for Mount Briggs, a place where the rule is, only the strong survive. They meet Olivia (Oliviar) Milla Armstrong. The Major General of that specific region. Olivia doesn't trust anyone and she makes that very well known when she speaks with Ed for the first time. Sharp wit, a more than decent shot with a rifle, and an excellent swordsman. Those are the three reasons why Olivia is the highest ranking officer at Briggs. At first she intimidates Ed, but after they have multiple conversations, the boy looks past her rough exterior and finds out that she only wants what's best for her subordinates. There at Briggs the Elrics also discover the secret goal that the homunculi and Father are working towards, to turn the entire country into a transmutation circle and use humans as sacrifices. Knowing full well that he can't let anything to that extent happen, Ed devises a plan to thwart the opposing side with the help of his allies and the General. However, Ed's plans are put to somewhat of a halt when Zolf J. Kimblee shows up unexpectedly with Winry Rockbell. Right from the start, Ed knows something is wrong with the picture. Kimblee ends up taking Ed aside, trying to convince him into working with the homunculi. And even though Ed refuses, he's manipulated because of the hostage situation. When Ed finally believes he has the upperhand in things, he's taken by surprise when Kimblee reveals he has a Philosopher's Stone and the Crimson Alchemist ends up bringing an entire tower down upon Edward the chimeras (that also were working for Kimblee.)
